For many of the students on your team, graduation is just around the corner. Some of them are thinking about college, others are thinking about getting a job. No matter what’s in store, one important step in planning for that future is registering with Selective Service.

Young men living in the U.S. are required by law to register with Selective Service when they turn 18.

If they don’t register, they lose access to:

  • Federal student loans
  • Job training programs
  • Government jobs
  • Driver’s license eligibility in most states

There are no penalties for late registration between the ages of 18 and 26. But once a man turns 26 years old, he is permanently barred from opportunities that are linked with registration.

The impact that coaches and other role models can have on a young man’s life is astounding.

Simply by taking a moment to explain what registration is, and why it’s important, you can change a young man’s future. Young men can register online or at the post office. For more information, go to sssresources.us
