‘Disney Duals’ continue to expand
The 2019 AAU Scholastic Duals, commonly called the “Disney Duals,” was held again in June in Orlando, Fla., and consisted of 35 All-Star, 53 Developmental, 10 Girls, and 94 teams in Community Divisions I & II, while National AAU Wrestling Chairman Wes Creason added an Alternates Round Robin Tournament for back-up wrestlers. The tournament is set up by way of the Madison System of grouping wrestlers by similar weights and allows for more competition for younger and developing wrestlers.

MAWA Knight Point Blue Defend Scholastic All-Star Gold Title
MAWA Knight Point Blue totally Dominated their competition, going 9-0 in duals while dropping only 10 individual bouts, and all by decision. The MAWA team, led by several WIN Magazine-ranked wrestlers from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, defeated western PA’s Young Guns Black in the All-Star final.

The championship final started off at 106 pounds when sixth-ranked Sheldon Seymour of MAWA won a 9-1 major decision over Carter Dibert. At 113, sixth ranked National Prep champ Ryan Miller of Blair Academy (MAWA) earned a 4-2 decision over Finn Soloman (YGB), 4-2. At 120, Colton Comacho put Young Guns on the board with a solid 12-6 win over Matthew Maloney. 126-pounder Patrick Noonan (MAWA) responded with a 7-2 decision over Brock McMillen.

Blair Academy’s No. 2-ranked Shayne Van Ness (MAWA) picked up a fall in 3:42 over Jared Keslar at 132 pounds. The Young Gun’s Tristan Pugh won a barn burner over Jonathan Miers 8-7 at 138 pounds. University of Penn-recruit A.J. Tamburino (MAWA) won a high scoring affair over Erik Gibson, 9-7 at 145.

Bethlehem Catholic’s No. 10-ranked 152-pound junior Cole Handlovic (MAWA) won a hard-fought decision over Trent Schultheis, 6-3. MAWA’s 160-pound Trey Kibe was a scoring machine as he majored Alec English, 11-2.

The 170-pound class featured a pair of No. 8-ranked wrestlers by WIN Magazine as Lehigh recruit and 170-pound Edmond Ruth (MAWA) took out Canon-McMillan’s Gerrit Nijenuis, normally a 182-pounder, by a 7-3 score. At 182 pounds, Young Guns’ Anthony Carman upset No. 13-ranked Oklahoma-bound Darrien Roberts of Wyoming Seminary, 6-1.

MAWA then swept the final three bouts as 195-pounder Luke Stoudt pinned Ryan Weinsen in 4:44, while Shane Nonnan wasted no time pinning Cory Johnson in just 22 seconds at 220 pounds. West Virginia-recruit and No. 7-ranked Michael Wolfgram lit up the scoreboard with a 17-5 major decision over Jalen Stephens at heavyweight.

Girls Tournament Grows to Ten Teams
The Michigan Lady Pitbulls won the Girls Division while posting a 9-0 record. The deciding championship dual between the Michigan Lady Pitbulls and the Iowa Vikings was a seesaw battle leading to the deciding bout at heavy weight when the Pitbulls’ Faith Keller won by fall over the Vikings’ Destine Daniels in 0:57.
