OMAHA, Neb. (January 11, 2023)
– The 2023 AAU Wrestling Winter Nationals returned to Ralston Arena and a few wrestlers are heading home with their championship chains around their necks. Now it’s time to wipe down the mats and look back at who had the most success in Omaha, Nebraska.

Boys and girls from 15 different states traveled to Omaha to challenge for the chain. 1,145 wrestlers in total took to the mats in the Ralston Arena with athletes split up into age groups and weight classes. Age groups consisted of: Tots (6u) Bantam (7 & 8), Midget (9 & 10), Novice (11 & 12), and School Boy/Girl 8th Grade and under (13 – 15). The champions of each weight class in each division were awarded a Chain of Champions.

Two wrestlers that walked in looking to defend their championship chains from last year’s Winter Nationals were Ignacio Villasenor(SchoolBoy) and Kaylyn Harrill (SchoolGirl). Ignacio Villasenor, from the Pomona Elite Wrestling club, won by fall over Owen Henriksen to retain his title of the SchoolBoy 105 division. This win makes Villasenor a 9-time winner. Kaylyn Harrill, wrestling with The Best Wrestler, defeated Chloe Boyer to defend her championship in the SchoolGirl 108/118 division. Harrill leaves as a 5-time champion.
