The 14-year-old rising freshman from Virginia Beach is slamming the doubt as this year’s AAU Scholastic Duals at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

Adonis Lattimore has only one fully functioning arm and no legs, but he has grappled the odds his whole life – and he enjoys beating people up.

The 14-year-old rising freshman from Virginia Beach is slamming the doubt as this year’s AAU Scholastic Duals at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

As far as his parents can tell, before Adonis was born he suffered from Amniotic Band Syndrome, a condition in which fibrous bands forms in the womb and constrict blood flow and the baby’s development. He has one full arm and another, slight shorter one, which has no hand but a couple fingers. Adonis has no right leg and a left leg which stops mid-thigh.

But you won’t see him complaining about – and he hasn’t since Rodney Grainger met him back in 2012.

“To see him already put his mind at work wrestling instead of worrying about what other kids had was an amazing sight,” said Grainger, who first met Adonis when he was eight years old. “I’ve worked with kids in the past with similar disabilities and to see him so young battling kids his age is one of the most amazing feelings I can have as a coach. He can amaze everyone with his great sense of humor as well as his knowledge of the sport.”

Now a member of the Virginia Psycho’s, Adonis competed in this week’s AAU Scholastic Duals at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, one of the biggest high school dual-meet events in the country. He and his teammates were one of more than 160 teams across the nation competing in the event.

Adonis finished the week without a win, but he continued to inspire those around him at AAU Scholastic Duals.

“He goes out there on his hands and goes to battle,” said Mike Newbern, coach of the Virginia Psychos. “He’s just like every other kid out there except, for us, he is a really motivation.”
