More than 1,000 wrestlers rang in the new year as they competed for the chance of a national title at the 2021 AAU Winter Youth Nationals held at the Ralston Arena from January 2nd through 3rd, 2021.

Working with local health department officials and following federal, state, and local guidelines, social distancing protocols were implemented for the safety of all in attendence including revised scheduling sessions to minimize number of people in one place, at one time.

The best boys and girls wrestlers from around the country competed in the tournament ranging from tot through schoolboy/schoolgirl divisions.

With her win, Reanah Utterback hailing from the great state of Iowa became the first female to take home her 4th AAU Winter Youth Nationals Girls Title.  In addition,  she competed in -- and won -- the schoolboy 100 lbs weight class as well.     Local wrester, Madyn Overman, of Omaha, Nebraska also garnered her 4th Championship title in the girls division.

On the boys side, Ignacio Villasenor won his 6th Championship chain winning the Novice 80 title.  With two years of eligibility left, Ignacio is well on his way to be the first wrestler to win eight (8) AAU Winter National Championships.

Looking ahead, the revised schedule was favorably received and the event will follow a similar format in 2022.

Thank you to everyone who competed safely and successfully at the 2021 AAU Winter Youth Nationals.
